Palazzo Stella

The Palladian Palace

Walking down via Pilacorte, we reach Palazzo Stella, a 16th-century building attributed to Palladio. Eusebio, one of the greatest Friulian poets of the 17th century, and 18th-century physicist, mathematician, and naturalist Francesco Maria Stella both lived there.

In Autumn 1797, Napoleon I stayed there during his Italian campaign, which ended with the Treaty of Campo Formio that marked the defeat of Austria and the First Coalition, confirming the French influence over Italy.

From an architectural point of view, the building is inspired by classic Roman principles and hints at the Palladian villas around Vicenza and across eastern Veneto.
